UConn Women's Tennis Signs Kelley LoRusso
STORRS,
Conn. (Jan. 17, 2006) – Kelley LoRusso has signed a national letter of
intent to play tennis at the University of Connecticut, director of
tennis Glenn Marshall announced. A native of Shoreham, N.Y., LoRusso
attends Shoreham-Wading River High School.
“We are very excited that Kelley will follow in her sister’s footsteps
and come play here at UConn,” Marshall said. “She will have an
immediate impact on our lineup next fall. Her game is advanced enough
where she will be able to help us right away as a freshman and I
expect her to be a top player for us for years to come. I am thrilled
that she has chosen to be a Husky.”
A
National Honor Society member, LoRusso won the gold medal at the 2005
Empire State Games representing Long Island. She was part of a USTA
Zone Championship team in both 2003 and 2004 in the under-16 age
class. She also won a girls classification doubles gold medal at the
2001 Empire State Games and a doubles bronze in 2002. In addition to
her tennis prowess, LoRusso was named All-State as a sprinter for the
SWR track and field team.
LoRusso’s high school pedigree is an unusual one. After being named
All-State as a freshman, LoRusso began competing with the
Shoreham-Wading River boy’s team for better competition, earning
All-Conference honors as both a sophomore and junior competing against
boys.
LoRusso’s older sister, Jen, played for UConn from 2001-05, posting an
8-4 record at No. 2 singles for the Huskies last fall. |
