Women's Tennis Defeats Radford, 4-3, For Third Straight Win
ORLANDO, Fla. (March 12, 2008) - The University of
Connecticut women's tennis team won its third consecutive match by
defeating Radford, 4-3, to cap off a three-match Spring Break trip
to Florida. The Huskies are now 4-3 in dual match play this year.
"The team went 3-0 against some very tough competition from
around the country," Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall said. "I am very pleased
with these results. The players responded very well is some tough situations,
and that carried them forward to win these tight matches."= UConn swept
the three doubles matches, including a hard-fought contest between Alison
Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.)/BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and
Radford's Camila Noldin and Ashton Downs. The Husky pair took their opponent to
a 9-7 set for the win. In singles action, UConn split the flights with Radford
with three win apiece. Cheung also won her singles match, defeating Noldin in
the no. 3 spot. Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) and Ali Campitiello
(Staten Island, N.Y.) were also victorious, taking flights four and five,
respectively. Porter ousted Radford's Downs in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
Campitiello also needed three sets to put away her opponent, knocking off Mirna
Matic, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, with a strong comeback effort. The Huskies return to
action Thursday, Mar. 20 against Quinnipiac at 2:00 p.m. in Storrs.
