Women's Tennis Shuts Out Rhode Island, 7-0
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (March 27, 2008) - The
University of Connecticut women's tennis team swept all its singles
matches and earned the doubles point as they defeated Rhode Island,
7-0, Thursday afternoon at the East Hartford Racquet Club. UConn is
now 5-2 on the season as it begins a series of conference matches
over the weekend. Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Ali
Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) both improved to 6-1 on the year in
singles play with wins in flights two and five, respectively. Herb bested Rhode
Island's Christen Cadigan, 6-3, 6-2, while Campitiello defeated Valerie Chacon,
6-4, 6-1. "I am very pleased with the win today against a very good team from
URI," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "The team is playing very well
right now heading into a stretch of seven BIG EAST Conference matches in 14
days." The Huskies return to action Saturday, Mar. 29 at Seton Hall. The dual
match is schedule for 2:00 p.m. SINGLES
