Women's Tennis Edged By St. John's, 4-3

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 1, 2008) - The University of Connecticut dropped a close BIG EAST match, falling to St. John's, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at the East Hartford Racquet Club. The loss drops UConn's record to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The Huskies swept the middle flights, taking nos. 3-5 in singles action. Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) won her seventh consecutive singles match, defeating Gabija Gasiunaite, 6-1, 6-3, in flight five.

BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) were also victorious, taking flights three and four, respectively. Cheung bested Emily Barnett, 6-4, 6-0, while Porter took Ira Aleksova through a long three-set match before winning 2-6, 6-3, (12-10).

The Huskies return to action Wednesday against Providence at 3:00 p.m. in East Hartford.
