Women's Tennis Falls to West Virginia 6-1
STORRS, Conn. (April 12, 2008) - The University of
Connecticut women's tennis team fell in its BIG EAST regular season
finale 6-1 to West Virginia on Saturday. UConn is now 9-6 overall
and 4-5 in the BIG EAST.
Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) won the lone Husky point of the
day in flight five. She defeated Stephanie LaFortune 6-3, 6-0. It was her 12th
consecutive victory in singles play. The Huskies also were able to take one of
the doubles matches as BreAnn Cheung (Tucson, Ariz.) and Katie Moritz
(York, Pa.) defeated Ashley Pilsbury and Monique Burten of the Mountaineers
8-6 in flight three. The match against West Virginia was the last home event
for the team's one senior Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.). "Jess Porter
has been an outstanding addition to our program both on and off the court," said
head coach Glenn Marshall. "This spring season she has one of the top
winning percentages in both singles and doubles. She has a been a tremendous
competitor who set a great example for our entire team." The Huskies will next
be in action in the BIG EAST Championship which begins April 17 in Tampa, Fla.
