11th-Seeded Women's Tennis Falls To No. 6 Syracuse, 4-2, At BIG EAST Championships

TAMPA, Fla. (April 17, 2008) - The 11th-seeded University of Connecticut women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to sixth-seeded Syracuse Thursday afternoon in the first round of the BIG EAST Championships. The Huskies are now 9-7 heading into Friday's consolation round match against 10th-seeded West Virginia at 3:00 p.m.

UConn got on the board first, taking the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches for the quick 1-0 lead. Kelley LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) partnered up in the top spot to win, 8-6, while Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) won 8-3 at No. 2.

In singles play, Herb earned the lone point for the Huskies by capturing the win in flight two. She defeated Simone Kalhorn, whom she also faced in doubles play, 6-3, 7-5.
