Four UConn Tennis Players Capture Titles at Bucknell
LEWISBURG, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2007) - Both the University of
Connecticut men’s and women’s tennis teams competed at the Bucknell
Invitational this weekend with play concluding on Sunday. Three
men’s doubles teams won their flights while Dave Adams
(Andover, Mass.) winning his singles flight. For the women, three
UConn players were singles flight champions and two doubles teams
were flight champions.
Adams won the No. 6 flight singles title with an undefeated
record of 3-0. He was a champion twice at the invitational with a 3-0 record
again, this time in doubles with Nic Visinski (Fairfield, Conn.) in the
fourth flight.
Also in doubles action, Joey Michaels (Rochester
Hills, Mich.) and Matthew Burns (Middletown, N.Y.) won all three of their
matches to claim the No. 3 doubles title. Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.)
and Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) dropped a single match en route to
earning the No. 2 flight championship.
All three women’s players went undefeated in singles play
as each won their singles flight. Ali Campitiello (Staten Island, N.Y.)
earned the No. 3 flight title with a 3-0 record while BreAnn Cheung
(Tucson, Ariz.) and Alexa Gregory (State College, Pa.) also won their
flights, going 3-0 against the competition. Cheung won the fourth flight and
Gregory won the sixth singles flight.
Together Cheung and Campitiello earned the No. 2 doubles
flight title. Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) and Gregory won the third doubles
flight of the invitational.
The UConn men’s tennis team resumes action on Wednesday
with a home match against Bryant at 3 p.m. The women’s team will host UMass on
Oct. 15 for a 2:30 p.m. match.
