Knight Earns All-American Status in the High Jump at the NCAA Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (March 14, 2008) - Sophomore Carin Knight (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded a mark of 1.83 meters (6-0.00) to earn a spot among the top-five finishers in the high jump and receive All-American honors at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championship.

Knight finished fifth in today's high jump with a mark of six feet, a personal best finish for the second-year UConn student-athlete. Knight entered today's event ranked 16th and tied for last place in the high jump and ended the day in the top handful of the group. This is Knight's first All-American title.

"Going into the championship ranked in last place and finishing fifth is just remarkable," said head coach Bill Morgan. "It shows so much for her composure and patience to pick up this honor and record her personal best at such a competitive meet. She just had an outstanding day at the nation championships and we are just so proud of her. It is such an incredible feat for this young lady as only a sophomore."

With the All-American honor, Knight adds to the nine other All-American titles in the high jump, led by former Huskies Dierdre Mullen (5) and Tamika Toppin (4). Knight's finish is the third-best finish in UConn's all-time performance list for the event.

Fellow teammate senior captain Tamara Highsmith (East Haven, Conn.) hopes to join Knight in the success, as she gets ready to compete in the women's triple jump event on Saturday evening to continue the Huskies run at the 2008 NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
