STORRS, Conn. (May 15, 2008) - Senior Tamara Highsmith (East Haven, Conn.), who recorded a new school record with a mark of 13.44 meters (44-01.25) in the triple jump at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, will look to lead the University of Connecticut women's track and field team at the 2008 Outdoor ECAC Championship at Princeton this weekend.

The Huskies, who have won the ECAC Indoor Championship the past two years, will compete in 15 total events as the UConn program is anticipating outstanding performances this weekend.

UConn is building on an incredible year for its program as the meet propels the Huskies into the NCAA East Regional Championship, to be held in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 30-31, which in turn determines the Huskies' National qualifiers.

"The stakes have become higher," said head coach Bill Morgan. "But the caliber of our team members present the possibilities for a great run."

The Huskies will depend on All-Americans, Highsmith and Carin Knight (New Rochelle, N.Y.) in the triple jump and high jump, along with BIG EAST spring champion Trisha-Ann Hawthorne (Elmsford, N.Y.) to, lead the way this weekend.

UConn will also add three other BIG EAST Champions to the mix in junior captain Amanda Martin (Rowley, Mass.), Alyssa Evering (Bel Air, Md.) and Mandela Graves-Fulgham (Shutesbury, Mass.). Sophomore Tynisha McMillian (Bridgeport, Conn.) will lead the Huskies in the field events as UConn's top thrower.

"It's not hard to look down the road for qualifying for the Olympic Trials," added Morgan. "With several alumni and present team members qualified, A or B standard, our representation will be evident. Such an exciting position for our team."
