Martin Leads Women's Track and Field at Day One of ECAC Championship

Day Two Results

PRINCETON, N.J. (May 17, 2008) - Junior Amanda Martin (Rowley, Mass.) took first place in the javelin with a throw of 48.85 meters (160-03) besting her school record mark as she led the University of Connecticut women's track and field team in day one of competition at the 2008 Outdoor ECAC Championship at Princeton on Saturday.

"We had a great first day at the ECAC Championship," said head coach Bill Morgan. "We took care of business in the finals of a number of events, while performing well in the preliminaries to return to action tomorrow."

Sophomore Tynisha McMillian (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished in third place in the discus throw with a personal record mark of 49.57 (162-07).

Freshman Trisha-Ann Hawthorne (Elmsford, N.Y.), who won both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash at the BIG EAST Championship two weeks ago, will continue on to tomorrow's finals in both events. Junior Mandela Graves-Fulgham (Shutesbury, Mass.) will also compete in the finals on Sunday in the 400 meter dash.
