(June 22, 2008)
- University of Connecticut women's track and field sprints and hurdles coach,
Clive Terrelonge, was featured in the Jamaica Observer for his great
achievements as a track and field coach.
Terrelonge just finished his fourth season
at UConn, a year in which the Huskies won their first ECAC outdoor women's
championship title. He has led many talented sprinters and hurdlers as an
assistant coach for the Huskies, including freshman Trisha-Ann Hawthorne
(Elmsford, N.Y.), who qualified for the NCAA Championship this season in both
the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, while also making the Under-23 Jamaican
National Team.
The NCAA Division III Track and Field Hall
of Famer has used his knowledge and experience as a former international athlete
to help the Huskies in taking a huge step in the very competitive BIG EAST
Conference. He has notably coached many student-athletes to All-BIG EAST and
All-ECAC status, as well as New England Championship titles.
Terrelonge is a two-time Olympian and a
World Champion for Jamaica, while also being a 19-time All-American.
Terrelonge traveled to Bydgoszcz earlier
this month to guide Hawthorne in competition, as she competed in the 200 meter
dash at the 12th World Junior Championships. Hawthorne, unfortunately, could not
compete in the semifinals of the 200 meter dash or the 4x100 meter relay as she
was withdrawn by the team's physician Dr. Charmaine Scott.
Hawthorne was also featured on the Armory
Track website for her recent success with making the Jamaican team.
