Rebecca Murray Earns Second Straight Women's Volleyball BIG EAST Freshman
of the Week Honors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 5, 2007) -
Freshman
Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.)
recorded 24 kills and five blocks to earn the honor of BIG EAST
Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday but the conference office.
Murray has been named the Freshman of the Week for the BIG EAST for
the second straight week after earning a spot on the weekly honor
roll the first week of play this season.
Connecticut picked up two key victories over the weekend, defeated
both Marquette and Syracuse in BIG EAST Conference play. Murray,
who has not missed a game all season, recorded 24 kills in 45 attempts while
averaging 3.00 kills per game. She recorded five blocks during her solid
weekend performance to add to her team-high this season at 89
total blocks. Murray has 251 kills this season while posting a 2.73 kills
per game average. Her 0.97 blocks per game average leads the Huskies this
season.
Senior Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), the Huskies' leader
in total kills, kills per game and points, earned a spot on the BIG
EAST weekly honor roll after her stellar performance throughout the
weekend. Chambers led the Huskies with 38 kills, a 4.75 average, while
hitting .382-percent. She also picked up four digs and two total
blocks in the Huskies' 2-0 week.
UConn, now 17-9 and 7-5 in BIG EAST play, will return to action as
they travel to South Florida on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. match-up.
