Chambers and Denson-Dorman Earn All-BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Honors
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (November 15, 2007) -
Senior Sadé Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.)
has been selected for the All-BIG EAST First Team while sophomore
Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn.) earned a spot on
the All-BIG EAST Second Team as announced at the BIG EAST Tournament
banquet on Thursday night.
The University of Connecticut women's volleyball
team finished the regular season tied for sixth place to earn a chance to compete for the 2007 BIG EAST Tournament
Championship title, starting Friday, Nov. 16 in the Al McGuire
Center in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Chambers is the first Husky to earn All-BIG EAST First Team honors
since Jamie Hadenfeldt in 2004. She has led the Huskies throughout
the season in kills and kills per game as her 333 kills and 3.40 per
game have dominated UConn opponents throughout the year.
The senior has put up impressive numbers throughout her career,
posting a career-high 22 kills at Syracuse in 2006 while picking up
an impressive six blocks against Georgetown last season. In 2007,
Chambers has recorded a season-high 21 kills against Notre Dame on
Oct. 27 and five blocks twice, against Saint Louis and Middle
Tennessee in September.
Denson-Dorman has led the Huskies this season, as the team's only
setter, while handing out 1,230 assists, a 12.55 per game average.
Last season she earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team as a
freshman as the Huskies made it into the Championship Tournament for
the first time since 2002.
The
sophomore recorded a career-high 71 assists in the five-game battle
against Marquette on Nov. 4, 2007, while leading the UConn program
to victory in six out of their last seven matches.
The Huskies, who finished the regular season with an overall record of
18-10 and an 8-6 record in the BIG EAST, will take on No. 2 St.
John's on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (CST). The Red Storm
finished the regular season with an overall record of 28-3 and a BIG
EAST mark of 13-1.
