Women's Volleyball Adds Fourth Newcomer to 2008 Roster
STORRS, Conn. (March 19, 2008) -
The University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team welcomes
an additional member to the 2008 roster, as Hanah Corell
will
play at Connecticut next season, head coach Holly Strauss announced
on Tuesday.
“Hanah is going to bring great work ethic and ball control into the
gym,” said Strauss. ”She is a fiery competitor and will
compete for a defensive position on the floor.” Corell, a 5-foot-5 defensive specialist, will come
to UConn after five years playing club volleyball in her hometown of Lancaster,
Wisc. A three-year varsity letter winner at Lancaster High School, Corell was a
First-Team All-Conference selection in 2007 as well as being named to the
Second-Team All-Area in the same year.
Corell, who will be wearing the number 15 this upcoming
season, played for the Power-Madison club team for two years before moving to
CVA. She also led her 17-Red Team to the Junior Olympics in the National
Division last year in Minneapolis, Minn.
The two-year captain at Lanchester High was also a
four-time academic honor roll student while earning academic All-Conference
honors in the SWAC Conference all four years of high school.
Corell will join fellow incoming freshmen Allie Nickel,
Jordan Kirk and Annie Luhrsen and the Huskies for preseason
practices in August when fall athletes return to campus before the beginning of
the school year.
