Women's Volleyball Newcomer Luhrsen Selected for U.S. Women's Junior National Training Team

STORRS, Conn. (March 22, 2008) -  Annie Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.), who will join the University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team this fall, has been chosen as one of the 19 athletes who will train for the U.S. Women's Junior National Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. July 8-19.

Out of the 19 chosen to participate, 12 athletes will be selected to represent USA Volleyball as the U.S. Women's Junior National Team at the NORCECA Continental Championship held July 22-27 in Saltillo, Mexico.

Luhrsen, the 6-foot-0 setter and three-time unanimous All-Conference selection in the DuPage Valley Conference during her high school career, will join the Huskies this August. She holds the Wheaton-Warrenville South High School record for assists in a single season while ranking second among the all-time career assist leaders. Along with being named to the Chicago Sun Times Pre-Season Top 50 list in 2007, Luhrsen was a Chicago Tribune First Team All-State selection. She was also a two-time First Team All-State selection for the Champaign News Gazette and was a two-time First Team All-Area selection for the Chicago Sun Times.

“We are so proud of Annie,” said UConn head coach Holly Strauss. “Being in the USA volleyball circuit will be a great experience for her and a great preparation for our upcoming season. We are excited for her talent, relentless work ethic and for her genuine commitment and dedication to the game of volleyball. Annie is going to be the first UConn volleyball player in a team USA jersey. How truly great for the program, the school and for Annie."
