UConn Wins 3-1 Decision over Hartford in Volleyball on Wednesday Night

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 8, 2008) – Lauren Lamberti
(Cary, Ill.) once again led the University of Connecticut women’s volleyball
team (12-6, 2-2) in kills with 11 in a 3-1 win over Hartford on Wednesday night.
The Huskies dropped the first set, but took the final three at Harry A. Gampel
Pavilion.
UConn pulled away late in the second set to secure a 25-18
win against the Hawks after dropping the first set 25-20. Back-to-back service
aces by Annie Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.) gave the Huskies a lead (9-7) they
would not relinquish in the second set. The early advantage was not enough as
Hartford continued to pressure, but UConn held the Hawks to a .061
hitting-percentage in the second set.
Kills by Megan Frey (Chaska, Minn.) and Chauntay
Mickens (Germantown, Md.) comprised a seven-point run by the Huskies in the
third set. Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) held the serve while Hartford
continued to commit errors. A kill by the Hawks’ Sydney Scott ended the run with
UConn in the lead, 20-10. The Huskies would win the third set 25-11.
In the fourth set, another seven-point run pulled UConn
ahead 13-5 with Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.) recording three service
aces in that span. The Huskies maintained control en route to a 25-12 final in
the third set. Isaac finished the match with a career-high five service aces.
Luhrsen finished the night with 40 assists while Isaac led
the team with 10 digs. Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed eight
digs. Frey and Murray each had six digs.
The Hartford (5-13, 0-1 offense was led by Erin Macro with
11 kills as Maddison Molyneux and Hallie Fullager each contributed eight.
UConn returns to action at Gampel Pavilion with a 2 p.m.
match against Rutgers on Sun, Oct. 12.

first time since the Huskies’ 3-1 over Temple on Sept. 20.
