April 9, 2004

HARTFORD — The committee planning the victory celebration in downtown Hartford for the 2004 NCAA Champion University of Connecticut men’s and women’s basketball teams has confirmed that a parade will be held on Sunday, April 18, at 1:30 p.m.

The parade route will be the same as in previous celebrations. It will begin at the State Capitol, travel north up Trinity Street, turn right onto Jewell Street, left onto Trumbull Street, right onto Church Street, right onto Main Street and right onto Capitol Avenue.

Both teams will travel the route atop bright red double-decker buses. More than 60 units are expected to be in the parade, which will last approximately 90 minutes to two hours.

The parade will be followed by a rally on the north steps of the Capitol.

The parade is being made possible through generous donations from the City of Hartford, State of Connecticut, a variety of civic organizations and several area businesses. For parade sponsorship opportunities, contact the MetroHartford Alliance at (860) 525-4451.

The parade planning team is coordinated by the Greater Hartford Arts Council and the MetroHartford Alliance. The team consists of representatives from the State of Connecticut, City of Hartford, University of Connecticut, civic organizations and businesses from throughout the Greater Hartford region.

Additional parade details, including information about traffic, parking, order of participants, media credentials and more will be announced as they become available.
