A redshirt senior who enters the year as the top reserve at center.

Career: Has played in 13 career games with eight starts at center.

2007: Played in four games, seeing action against Temple (Sept. 15), Pittsburgh (Sept. 22), Akron (Sept. 29) and Syracuse (Nov. 17).

2006: Not with the team while serving a University suspension … Returned to the squad for spring drills.

2005: Played in nine games at center, starting each of the first eight contests.

2004: Redshirted… Named the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week prior to the Temple game (Oct. 23).

High School: A consensus All-State pick in Maryland as a senior … Named first-team All-Metro by the Washington Post while also earning All-Conference recognition and a spot on George Michael’s Golden 11 All Star team … A three-time All-Conference honoree … As a senior, played on every Westlake snap except for kickoffs … As a defensive lineman, recorded 75 tackles as a senior including 28 for a loss with seven sacks while recording a total of 183 career tackles with 71 for a loss and 18 sacks, deflecting 14 passes and intercepting one … Saw action at Westlake as a center, guard and tackle on offense while also playing defensive tackle and long snapping … Served as a team captain as both a junior and senior … Team went 10-2 in 2003 and ranked 20th in the Washington Post’s Top 20 … A three-time Scholar Athlete Award recipient.

Personal Profile: Frederick William Tonsing III … Born on March 23, 1985 … Father, Bill, graduated from West Point and earned the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army … An economics major.
