Associate Head Coach Ted Gibbons

Associate head coach Ted Gibbons enters his 17th season
with Connecticut’s men’s track and field program. He specializes as the field
events coach for the Huskies. Gibbons has produced three All-Americans at UConn
in Mike Deibler, Ray Wilks and Steve Santoli. Wilks earned the honor in the shot
put in 1999, while Santoli received All-American status in the weight throw in
1998. Deibler earned the honor in 2003 in the high jump. Gibbons has produced
35 BIG EAST Champions including a sweep of all four throws at the 1998 Outdoor
BIG EAST Championships.
A member of the Connecticut staff since the 1992-93 season,
Gibbons was elevated to associate head coach of the program in January of 1996.
Prior to joining Greg Roy’s staff at UConn, Gibbons served
as coordinator of the men’s and women’s track and field programs and head men’s
track and field coach at Washington University in St. Louis, MO from 1985-92.
While at Washington, Gibbons led his men’s track and field team to eight
consecutive indoor and outdoor University Athletic Association titles. Gibbons
also served as assistant football coach for the defensive line unit at
Washington. Twelve of Gibbons’ track and field student-athletes qualified for
NCAA Division III National Championships during his tenure at Washington
University.
Prior to his Washington position, Gibbons was head field
events coach from 1982-83 and freshman football coach from 1976-1982 at Brown
University.
Gibbons, a Newport, R.I. native, is a 1967 graduate of the
State University of New York at Buffalo where he was selected honorable mention
All-America in football and All-Small College track and field in Western New
York. Gibbons is a member of his alma mater’s Hall of Fame.
Coach Gibbons lives in Newport, R.I. with his wife Tammy
Forsberg. He has four children,
