April Garner returns to the University of Connecticut women’s
track and field coaching staff for her fourth season, bringing a wealth of
knowledge in the sprints and hurdles. She reigns as the school record holder in
the 55 and 60-meter indoor hurdles, as well as the 100-meter outdoor hurdles. In
her four years, Garner compiled a long list of accolades, including four
individual New England Championships, an ECAC Championship, and she qualified
for the NCAA Regional Championships three times.
Garner also excelled academically, being named to the Dean’s list eight times
and received individual NCAA All-Academic honors in 2005.
Garner is currently continuing to pursue a professional track and field
career in the sprint hurdles as she most recently competed in the 100 meter hurdles at the 2008 United
States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.
She was also a two-time finalist in the
60 meter hurdles at the USA Indoor National Championships in 2007 and 2008.
Garner graduated with her degree in allied health in May of 2005 and
completed her master’s degree in physical therapy in May of 2006. She currently
resides in Middletown, Conn., where she also works as a Physical Therapist,
specializing in sports rehabilitation.
