CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Nov. 18) -- With several of its members placing in the top 15 of their events, the University of Connecticut women's swimming team finished seventh with 230 points, while the men placed 11th respectively with 69 points at the three-day Nike Cup hosted by North Carolina at the Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Sophomore Kate Larson (Sayville, N.Y.) would finish ninth in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes in Saturday's finals. She clocked in a time of 1 minute, 4.58 seconds in the 100 and a 2:19.24 in the 200. Freshman teammate Lindsay Hansen (Clearwater, Fla.) finished eighth in the 1,650 freestyle with a 17:09.88, while senior Rachel Schwartz (Middletown, N.J.) placed 12th in both the 50 (24.49) and 100 (52.62) freestyles.

Relay competition proved successful for the Huskies, as the women racked up top 10 finishes in the 200 freestyle, 400 medley, 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. The team of junior Anne McAndrew (Centerbrook, Conn.), freshman Katie Jelus (Beavercreek, Ohio) and seniors Liz Klink (Mt. Arlington, NJ) and Schwartz, turned in a time of 7:41.38 in the event good enough for a sixth place finish.

The same went for the men, as they placed 11th in the 800 freestyle relay (6:59.84) behind fast swims from junior Jeff Hammeken (Horseshoe Bay, Texas), freshman Dustin Rogers (West Allis, Wis.) and sophomores Craig Orski (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Marshal Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y.).

In the 1,650 freestyle, junior David Carlson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and senior Barry Hoey (Valrico, Fla.) finished back-to-back in the race. Carlson placed 10th in a time of 16:05.22 and Hoey 11th with a 16:07.31.

The Connecticut men and women will next travel to Auburn, Alabama, on Dec. 1 and 2 to take part in the U.S. Open hosted by Auburn University, before taking on regional rival UMass in a dual meet on Dec. 9 in Storrs.
