Bill Peterson is in his 17th year working in collegiate athletics and sports information and begins his fifth year as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Connecticut. Peterson works primarily with the UConn men's hockey program and the men's and women's tennis teams.
Before joining the staff at UConn, Peterson spent the previous 11 years at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He began his stint at SHU first as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications before being promoted to Associate Director and then Assistant Athletic Director for Communications in 2010. While at Sacred Heart, Peterson worked as the primary media contact for the football, men's and women's basketball and women's lacrosse teams at various times during his tenure.
He worked with 11 different teams that captured Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships and berths in the NCAA Tournament at Sacred Heart. He served as the media relations director and tournament official at the 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009 NEC Women's Basketball Tournaments and the 2003, 2009, 2010 and 2013 NEC Women's Lacrosse Tournaments. Peterson also assisted with the redesign and re-launch of the athletic department's official website in 2010 and 2013. In addition to his work in athletic communications, he served on the branding committee for the redesign and implementation of a new athletics logo.
Peterson got his start in the sports information field spending two years as an assistant at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State University, where he worked with the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and baseball teams. He graduated from CCSU in 1997 with a degree in communications/public relations.
A life-long resident of Connecticut, Peterson and his wife Kristy, twin daughters Abigail and Emma and son Benjamin currently reside in Rocky Hill.
