Phil Chardis is beginning his fourth year as an assistant director of athletic communications, with the primary responsibilities of the men's basketball and men's golf teams.
Previous to joining the athletic communications staff at UConn in January, 2012, Chardis had a 39-year career in sports journalism, serving as assistant sports editor of the Journal Inquirer. His responsibilities there included story assignments, editing, page layout, deadline pagination, as well as the primary writer covering the UConn men's basketball beat.
Chardis owns a degree in communications (Radio-TV-Film) from Ithaca College. He and his wife, Beth, reside in Vernon, where they both enjoy and suffer from empty-nest syndrome.
