Program Specialist for Student-Athlete Development

Sofia currently serves as the program specialist for student-athlete development.  Her primary responsibilities include the planning and development of all leadership, professional, and personal development programs and workshops, as well as community services initiatives in SASP. 

In addition to her work in SASP, Sofia is also the co-founder of the Beyond the Field: Social Issues in Sport Series.  The campus wide series is dedicated to promoting and engaging in dialogue related to the social, political, and economic intersections of sport and society.  

Sofia came to UConn in 2015 to earn her master’s degree in sport management and became involved in SASP as a graduate intern for student-athlete development and community outreach.  Read was also involved as a graduate student worker for Husky Sport – a sport based youth development program in and Department of Educational Leadership at UConn.   

Read is an active member of Women Leaders in College Sport and the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). 

A native of Takoma Park, Md., Sofia attended Towson University and was a two-year co-captain of the women’s soccer team.
