Picture-perfect swing with great ball-striking ability ... focusing mainly on improving structure and posture in his putting game. Spring 2001: Did not compete in tournament play during the spring. Fall 2000: Coghlan transferred to UConn from the University of San Francisco in the fall of 2000 and proved to be one of UConn’s most consistent performers of the fall season ... competed in all five tournaments and contributed immediately ... Coghlan held the low average for fall play with a 76.1 ... shot a low round of 74 at the Yale Invitational ... tied for individual medalist honors at the Robert Morris Tournament with a two-day total of 155 (74-76), but was defeated in the play-off ... he finished in the top 20 in four of five tournaments and was UConn’s low score in three tourneys (tying once). Before UConn: Earned one letter at the University of San Francisco under the direction of head coach Dick Nicolopolous ... named to the student-athlete honor roll at USF. In High School: Coghlan was a four-year letterwinner at Notre Dame HS in Sherman Oaks, CA, under head coach John Skeese ... a three-time CIF Southern Section Finalist and a three-time All-Mission League honoree ... as a senior, he was captain of the golf and basketball teams, earning two letters in basketball at NDHS.
