Assistant Coach Emily Loomis

Emily Loomis, a former standout middle/outside hitter at the University of Notre Dame enters her second season as an assistant coach at the University of Connecticut.

Loomis spent 2001-04 playing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish volleyball team. She was named honorable mention AVCA All-America in 2003, finishing her career with 1,321 kills to rank fifth on the Irish all-time kills list. Loomis earned AVCA all-Northeast Region (first team in '02 and '03; honorable mention in '04) and all-BIG EAST honors (first team in `02, second team in `03, honorable mention in '04) accolades in each of her last three seasons.

Loomis set school records in 2003 for consecutive matches with 10+ kills (21) and most kills in a match without an attack error (24). Named Most Outstanding Player of the 2002 BIG EAST Championship, she is also in the Irish career record book in solo blocks (5th, 94), attack attempts (4th, 3453), kill average (9th, 3.15), matches with 20+ kills (T-7th, 7), matches with team-high kills (7th, 37), and total blocks (9th, 409).

She stands as the only Notre Dame student-athlete ever to earn All-BIG EAST honors in two distinctly different sports (volleyball, track and field), as she was a four-time All-BIG EAST performer in the high jump for the Irish track and field team, winning the 2003 outdoor BIG EAST title in that event.

“I'm very excited to be working with such an energized staff,” Loomis said. “I have a great deal of respect for both Holly and Tim, and I look forward to seeing this program rise to the next level. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with a talented group of young women at a great university.”

Loomis will assist in film breakdown, game statistics as well as team travel and team training.

Originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., Loomis graduated from Notre Dame in 2005 with a B.A. in Industrial Design and Sociology. She is currently working towards her master's degree in Sports Management while at UConn.
