STORS, Conn. - The Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes would like to recognize Erin Koonz, for the third NSAD award this year. A senior psychology major and field hockey student-athlete, Erin is being recognized for her tenacity, commitment, and perseverance in the classroom and on the field.
Erin came to UConn as a walk-on, undecided major, with an incredible work ethic and dedication to excellence. Building on a great foundation, Erin has done nothing but give her best efforts every day since she stepped on campus to better herself in every way possible.
Erin has been on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team each year, is a six-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll student, has been named to the Gladiator by SGI / NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad, and has earned Dean's List honors for her achievements in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
After playing in just 20 career games over her first three years, Erin earned herself a starting position and scholarship for the 2013 Final Eight team. She started and played each of the 22 games as a senior and led the team in shots on goal percentage with every single one of her shots finding their target over the course of the season.
Erin has been described by her teammates as someone they know they can rely on and a definite leader with a great sense of humor. In recognition of these attributes, her teammates voted her captain of the 2013 team.
From High Falls, N.Y., Erin will be returning to the Hudson Valley this summer to pursue a graduate degree in counseling and begin her collegiate coaching career.
