STORRS, Conn. - In honor of National Student Athlete Day the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes is pleased to recognize Alex Bennatan of the men's cross country team for his distinguished career both in the classroom and on the track. Alex, a senior from Lake Forest, Illinois is set to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in Allied Health Sciences.
Alex has been a dedicated member of the track and cross country programs throughout his career at UConn but has seen tremendous dividends academically and athletically so far in the 2012 - 2013 season. On the track Alex took first place in the 800 meter run at the IC4A Championships in March. At the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in February Alex was part of the 4x800m relay team that finished in first place and set a new meet record. Between BIG EAST and IC4A's Alex learned some great academic news, he had been accepted into a graduate program at Vanderbilt University to study cardiac perfusion.
Alex's teammates recognized his achievements and commitment to the track and field program earlier this year by voting him a captain for the 2013 outdoor season. Alex has had a distinguished career at UConn so far and has an opportunity to write his own ending in the team's remaining meets this Spring.
