The Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes would like to recognize Danielle Cecco from Women's Diving as the National Student Athlete Day award winner #12. Danielle is the type of student-athlete every coach would love to have on their team. She is a strong leader, a motivating teammate, and has an impressive work ethic. This dedicated student has also been one of the top divers in the Big East the past three years. As an Elementary Education major, Danielle was named to the Dean's List three times during her career. She was also named to the Big East All-Academic Team in 2009-2010, 2010-2011, and 2011-2012.
As a freshman, Danielle earned all Big East team honors by finishing third in the 1-meter at the Big East Championships. She went on to a 6th place finish in the 1-meter and a 4th place finish in the 3-meter at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. During her sophomore season, Danielle finished 4th in the 1-meter and 6th in the 3-meter at the Big East Championships. She then went on to secure a 1st place finish in both the 1-meter and 3-meter at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships and finished the season at the NCAA Championships with a 29th place finish in the 1-meter and a 20th place finish in the 3-meter. As a junior, Danielle was named the Big East Most Outstanding Diver after finished 1st in the 1-meter and 2nd in the 3-meter at the Big East Championships. Danielle finished her junior year strong by finishing 3rd in the 1-meter and 1st in the 3-meter at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships. At the NCAA Championships, she finished 28th in the 1-meter and 14th in the 3-meter. Danielle concluded her impressive diving career earning all Big East team honors after finishing 2nd in the 1-meter, 4th in the 3-meter and 5th in the platform. At the NCAA Zone Diving Championships she went out strong securing a 2nd place finish in the 1-meter and a 2nd place finish in the 3-meter. At her final NCAA Championships, Danielle finished 34th in the 1-meter and 19th in the 3-meter.
After an impressive athletic career, Danielle will be remaining at UConn to complete her 5th year in the NEAG School of Education. There is no doubt she will go on to become a successful teacher. Congratulations to Danielle on a remarkable academic and athletic career at UConn!
