Position:
Director of Player Development and Baseball Operations

Head coach Jim Penders announced the addition of former Husky pitcher Jordan Tabakman as Director of Player Development and Baseball Operations on Sept. 6, 2017.

During his four-year UConn career, Tabakman split time between the starting rotation and the bullpen. The right-hander appeared in 59 games with 41 starts made, accumulating 269.1 innings placing him fourth all-time in UConn history. Tabakman’s 16 wins on the mound for the Huskies ranks in a tie for 13th in program history.

Tabakman’s best season came in 2013, en route to the Huskies winning the 2013 Big East Championship. The Pequannock native appeared in 22 games, made seven starts and registered a career-low 2.57 ERA. Tabakman went 6-2 in 66.2 innings and saved five games during his stint as the UConn closer.

Tabakman’s two biggest moments came at the most important part of the season for the Huskies. In the Big East Semifinals against Rutgers, Tabakman pitched the Huskies to the championship game with a seven-inning, six-hit performance only allowing one unearned run, walking zero and notching six strikeouts in a 2-1 victory. A week later in the NCAA Tournament winner’s bracket game against Oklahoma, Tabakman pitched a career-high nine innings, allowing only four hits after the first inning, zero runs and helped the Huskies force extra innings.

Since graduating in 2015, Tabakman has coached three summers with the Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, working as pitching coach alongside Braves’ manager and UConn alum, Harvey Shapiro.

Tabakman has spent the last two seasons as pitching coach at Amherst College, one of the top Division III programs in the country. During his tenure, the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted junior right-hander Drew Fischer in the 35th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.  Jackson Volle also earned All-NESCAC honors in both seasons under Tabakman.
