DAVIS, Calif. - The UConn baseball team defeated UC Davis 9-6 on Saturday afternoon at Dobbins Field.
The Huskies (8-4) battled back from an early 3-0 deficit in the second. Redshirt senior Alex LeFevre lined a bases-clearing double down the right field line to tie the game 3-3. Tyler Gnesda gave UConn the lead in the third with an RBI single through the left side.
Junior Wills Montgomerie moved to 4-0 on the year with a season-high seven-inning performance. Montgomerie recorded his third-straight double-digit strikeout game notching 10 punch-outs on Saturday.
Leading 6-4 in the seventh, senior Keith Krueger delivered a three-run double down the left field line to give the Huskies a bit of breathing room.
Anthony Prato finished the day with two more runs batted in, giving the freshman five RBIs this weekend.
John Russell sealed the ballgame in the ninth, striking out the side and earning his fifth save of the season. The win is the fourth straight for UConn, the longest streak of the season for the Huskies.
The Huskies attempt to notch their first sweep of the season tomorrow at 1 p.m. PST. Freshman Mason Feole is scheduled to make the start on the hill for UConn. The game can be heard on 91.7 FM WHUS or online at fm.whus.org.
