WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The University of Connecticut baseball team fell to Eastern Kentucky 8-4 on Friday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.

Eastern Kentucky picked up 17 hits on the afternoon to defeat the Huskies, who fall to 5-6 on the year, while the Colonels improve to 6-5.

The Colonels took an early lead in the second inning then added four runs in the fourth inning before the Huskies put two of their own runs on the board to cut the lead to three at 5-2. But Eastern Kentucky added one run in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to clinch the victory.

Sophomore Mike Nemeth (Washington, N.J.) tried to spark a rally for the Huskies, leading his ballclub with a 3-for-4 performance on the afternoon, but UConn's rally fell short in the end.

Freshman George Springer (New Britain, Conn.) recorded three RBIs while batting 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

Matt Burnett (Endicott, N.Y.), who had a four-game hitting streak in 2008 before a season-ending injury, has continued his run at the plate as he has extended his streak to 15 games, recording a hit in all 11 games this season.

John Folino (Quincy, Mass.) started on the hill for the Huskies throwing five innings, while striking out three. David Fischer (Scotia, N.Y.) came in the game in the sixth inning and recorded three strikeouts in two innings.

Freshman Scott Oberg (Tewksbury, Mass.) came in for the relief in the eighth and allowed one run before senior captain David Erickson (Stratford, Conn.) finished out the game.

The Huskies wrap up their play of the RussMatt Invitational on Saturday, March 14 at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. Updated statistics will be available as soon as possible.
