LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Troy Stefanski (North Stonington, Conn.) plated three runs with a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning to lift the UConn baseball team to a 5-4 win over USC on Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field. With the victory, UConn improves to 9-6 overall, while the Trojans move to 7-8.

The victory moves Connecticut to 2-1 all-time against USC and improves the squad to 3-2 on its West Coast road trip. Additionally, the Huskies move to 2-0 in midweek action during the 2016 campaign.

Senior OF Jack Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn.) went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the leadoff spot, while Stefanski finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Junior RHP Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) didn't factor in the decision after making his fourth start of the season. The Husky righty went 4.1 innings allowing a pair of runs on three hits with a strikeout. Freshman Doug Domnarski (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win in relief, retiring all five batters he faced in 1.2 innings pitched. Freshman Randy Polonia (Stamford, Conn.) notched his team-leading third save in the victory.

UConn jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third. After Stefanski opened the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Sundberg picked up his fifth RBI of the season with a double to center.

The Trojans tied it up in the fourth, scoring a run via a sac fly before UConn answered with a run in the fifth after Yahn notched a two-out triple to plate Sundberg. For Yahn, it marked his seventh two-out RBI of the season.

The Trojans responded with a two-run inning in the sixth, collecting a pair of hits and taking advantage of a Husky miscue.

The Huskies regained in the lead in the top of the eighth after an error, hit-by-pitch, and walk loaded the bases for Stefanski, who roped a double down the left field line.

Connecticut threatened in the first, putting two on with no one out but Perryman worked out of the jam with a 4-6-3 double play and an inning-ending strikeout.

The Huskies round out their eight-game California trip with a three-game series at No. 25 UC Santa Barbara on March 18-20.
