SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - A two-out, two-run double from sophomore catcher Zac Susi in the eighth inning vaulted the Huskies to a 2-1 victory over Seton Hall on Friday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.
In a spot start for the Huskies, Ronnie Rossomando pitched well for the Huskies. In his first start of the year, Rossomando pitched three scoreless innings without allowing a hit and struck out four.
Doug Domnarski (1-3) earned the win for UConn, pitching four inning and logging a career-high four strikeouts.
The Huskies, trailing 1-0, in the eighth inning got hits from Jack Lambrecht and Willy Yahn to place runners at first and second and two outs. Zac Susi delivered a clutch two-run double past the outstretched dive of the Seton Hall left fielder to give UConn its first lead of the day, 2-1.
Ryan Radue and John Russell dominated the final two innings, both right-handers worked 1-2-3 innings to seal the win for the Huskies. Russell grabbed his seventh save of the season.
The Huskies and Pirates resume the series Saturday at 11 a.m. Wills Montgomerie toes the rubber for the Huskies.
Zac Susi has eclipsed his RBI total from last season, with his two RBIs; Susi has 22 runs batted in this season. As a freshman, Susi had 21 runs batted in. Susi has five multi-RBI games this season.
Doug Domnarski notched his first victory of the season for the Huskies. It is Domnarski's second career win as a Husky. The first came last season on March 15 at USC.
UConn earned its first victory of the season when trailing after seven (1-6). The Huskies are now 8-0 when leading after eight.
With the one-run victory, the Huskies are 3-4 in one-run games this season.
