STORRS, Conn. - Junior Mike Olt recorded his ninth home run of the year as the 25th ranked UConn baseball team cruised to a 15-3 victory over Brown at Murray Stadium in Providence, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon.
UConn (24-7) recorded 18 hits in today's contest as Olt registered his ninth blast of the season with a three-run shot in the in the top of the first inning. Pierre LePage led off the game with a base hit before Mike Nemeth singled to put runners on base for Olt who sent a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall to give UConn a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Billy Ferriter singled with one out before picking up his first steal of the afternoon to get into scoring position. LePage followed Ferriter with a two-RBI double into left field then scored on a Nick Ahmed sacrifice fly.
Brown (9-20) picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning before UConn recorded two 4-run innings in the fifth and sixth frames. Olt continued to have a hot bat in today's game as he connected on an RBI double to score Nemeth in the fifth inning. Sophomore John Andreoli also registered an RBI in the inning with a sacrifice fly before a single up the middle by LePage posted another UConn run. The Huskies scored four runs in the frame on three hits and three Brown errors.
In the sixth inning, George Springer singled up the middle before Nemeth registered his team-leading ninth double of the year with an RBI multi-base hit into left field. Kevin Vance also hit a double in the inning, with a two-RBI hit into left as well.
Pat Butler earned his second win of the season to improve to 2-1 on the year from the hill for the Huskies. Dan Feehan, Ted Hurvul, Trent DeLazzer and Michael Zaccardo each threw an inning for UConn as they combined for two strikeouts and two hits in the four innings.
Brown's Matt Boyan took the loss for the Bears as he threw five innings, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs, seven of which were earned.
LePage finished the afternoon with three hits, three RBI and three runs scored, while Nemeth added three hits and three runs.
UConn will travel to the Nation's capital to take on Georgetown in BIG EAST Conference play beginning on Friday, April 16 with a 7:00 p.m. contest. The Huskies will take on the Hoyas in the three-game weekend series from Friday through Sunday.
