WICHITA, Kan. – The UConn baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep at No. 20 Wichita State to open the weekend on Friday at Tyler Field at Eck Stadium. The Huskies secured their second-straight Top-25 series win and have the opportunity for a series sweep on Sunday.

Game 1

The first game of the series began as a pitcher’s duel between freshman right-hander Colby Dunlop and Codi Heuer of the Shockers.

Dunlop, making his second career start, fired a career-high four shutout innings to pick up his first career win. Dunlop got out a couple of jams in the third and fourth inning to post a scoreless outing.

In the third with runners at first and second with one out, Dunlop coaxed All-American Greyson Jennista into a 4-6-3 double play. In the fourth inning with runners at second and third with one gone, Dunlop induced a pair of grounders to get out of the inning unscathed.

The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the fifth after Stefanski reached on an error and stole second base. First baseman Chris Winkel grounded a two-out RBI single back up the middle to push the Huskies ahead.

CJ Dandeanu tossed a scoreless fifth inning after returning for the first time since March 13 against Coastal Carolina.

UConn added to the lead with a five-run sixth inning that sent nine batters to the plate. Christian Fedko highlighted the frame with a two-run double down the left field line.

The Huskies added a run in the eight on a solo home run from Feldstein, the right fielder’s ninth of the season.

Jacob Wallace (2.1 IP) and P.J. Poulin (1.0 IP) combined to close out a 7-4 win for the Huskies.

Game 2

The Huskies jumped all over the Shockers in game two behind a five-run first inning. Zac Susi and Isaac Feldstein produced back-to-back RBI doubles to kick off the scoring in the first. Thad Phillips contributed an RBI single before Chris Winkel capped the frame with a two-run double.

Mason Feole held down a potent offense with six innings of work, allowing just three hits and gave up a pair of runs. The sophomore recorded 8 strikeouts in the contest.

The offense aided Feole in the fourth with back-to-back home runs from Feldstein and Thad Phillips. Feldstein stroked a two-run homer, his second of the day and 1-th of the year, while Thad followed up with his own home run to center to make it 8-2 Huskies.

Mike Woodworth wrapped up the night with an RBI double to push the lead to 9-2.

Winkel, Feldstein, Phillips, Woodworth and Anthony Prato all recorded multi-hit efforts.

With the sweep the Huskies moved to 19-10-1 on the season. The Huskies have now swept their last five doubleheaders that they have played in dating back to the start of 2017.

The six doubles in game two were the most in a game for the Huskies this season.

Isaac Feldstein and Thad Phillips hit back-to-back home runs in game two. It was the first time the Huskies have hit back-to-back homers since Opening Day at Kennesaw State this season.

UConn moved to 5-1 on the year against teams ranked in the Top-30 of the polls.
