In the bottom of the inning the Huskies answered back with a run of their own as freshman Nick Ahmed recorded his third double of the year with a leadoff hit to start things off for UConn. He was able to score as Dale Brannon singled through the right side of the infield as the Huskies tied the game at one.

With the scored tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, UConn broke the tie and scored four runs in the frame to take a 5-1 advantage. Peter Fatse led the charge as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Ahmed from third to go ahead 2-1.
