NORWICH, Conn. – The University of Connecticut baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to the University of Rhode Island at Dodd Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 28-25 on the year and the Rams improved to 31-22.
URI jumped out to a two-run lead on a home run to left field by third baseman Mike LeBel in the first inning.
UConn scratched across a run in the top of the second on a bases loaded hit by pitch to freshman third baseman Bryan Daniello (Norwalk, Conn.). The Rams earned that run back on a solo home run by first baseman Chase Livingston.
Freshman lefty Christian Colletti (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was chased in the third inning after allowing six runs on six hits and two walks. Colletti dropped to 3-2 with the loss.
Right-hander Milan Mantle (5-1) tossed five innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks. Out of the bullpen, left-hander Rob Curran allowed one run on four hits through three innings of work.
For Rhode Island, LeBel went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in.
The game marked the 179th meeting between the two schools, dating back to the first year of UConn baseball in 1896.
Connecticut wraps up the regular season with a three-game, non-conference series at George Mason beginning on Thursday, May 16.
