STORRS, Conn. - The Huskies lost a midweek contest to Northeastern 5-3 on Monday afternoon at J.O. Christian Field.
The Huskies jumped out in front early on a Zac Susi RBI single into right field, scoring Prato from third to make it 1-0. The lead was short-lived with Northeastern scoring two runs on one hit, a hit by pitch and two errors.
UConn briefly tied the game in the fifth on an Anthony Prato safety squeeze that scored Troy Stefanski from third.
Overall, the Huskies offense scuffled with just four hits on the day. Zac Susi recorded a multi-hit effort for UConn.
The Huskies still had a shot for a comeback in the ninth inning. Trailing 5-3, the Huskies loaded the bases on two walks and an error with no outs. However, after a pop up, strikeout and ground out the Huskies squandered the opportunity and dropped their second-straight game.
Sam Nepiarsky (Orange, Conn.) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless ball out of the bullpen for the Huskies.
The Huskies recorded eight strikeouts, eclipsing the 500-strikeout mark for the second in program history. UConn is chasing its 558 strikeouts from last season, a single-season record for UConn.
