NORWICH, CT (June 6, 2010) - Regional Most Valuable Player Sherman Johnson hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Daniel Bennett pitched 4.1 shutout innings to lead top-seeded Florida State to a 5-3 victory over Oregon Sunday night that allowed the Seminoles to win the NCAA Division I Baseball Norwich Regional Championship. The game was played before a crowd of 1,524 at Dodd Stadium.

The Seminoles improve to 45-17 with the win and they advance to the Super Regionals against the winner of Monday's Louisville-Vanderbilt game. The Ducks finish their season at 40-24.

Johnson's homer run started a four-run rally for Florida State off of Oregon starter and loser Alex Keudell. Stephen Cardullo added an rbi double in the inning and Stuart Tapley capped the rally with a run-scoring single.

The Ducks answered right back in the top of the fourth with three unearned runs off Florida State starter John Gast, who was relieved by Bennett. Bennett proceeded to set career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts (five) as the Ducks could not score again. His record improves to 4-1 with the win. Mike McGee pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.

Tyler Holt capped the scoring with a solo home run in the fourth for the Seminoles.

Johnson finished the tournament, which saw the Seminoles go a perfect 3-0, with five hits in 12 at bats, with two home runs four runs batted in.
