Kay Earns Preseason Third Team All-America Honors

After a breakout sophomore season, UConn baseball LHP Anthony Kay (Stony Brook, N.Y.) has been named to the Preseason All-America Second Team by Perfect Game, as announced by the organization on Monday.

A 2015 All-Conference First Team member, Kay was tabbed by The American as the 2016 Preseason Co-Pitcher of the Year in late December. The hurler went 8-6 in his sophomore season, finishing with a 2.07 ERA and a league-best 0.98 WHIP. His .202 batting average against ranked second among qualified pitchers in the conference and earned him a spot on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

In two seasons in Storrs, Kay has compiled 13 wins with 152 strikeouts in 167.0 innings. During the fall season, he was honored with the program's Mrs. Mary Dropo Unsung Hero Award.



Kay was one of five Huskies named to The American Preseason All-Conference squad and earned distinction as the No. 23 player on Baseball American's Top 100 College Draft Prospects in early January.

Connecticut opens its 2016 season on Feb. 19 when it plays the first of a three-game set at Texas San-Antonio at Roadrunner Field.
