Mazzilli Selected Preseason All-American by Perfect Game

Junior second baseman LJ Mazzilli.

Jan. 27, 2012

STORRS, Conn.University of Connecticut baseball junior second baseman LJ Mazzilli (Greenwich, Conn.) has been named to the Preseason All-America First Team by Perfect Game.  It is the second All-America honor of the preseason for Mazzilli as he was named a NCBWA Preseason All-American in December.

Mazzilli will also enter the season as an All-BIG EAST Preseason Team member.  He is the lone player from the conference to be honored as a first team member by Perfect Game.  St. John’s junior outfielder Jeremy Baltz is the only other BIG EAST player to represent the conference as he was named to the second team.

Mazzilli, who spent last summer with Team USA Baseball and the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, batted .338 with 93 hits, 23 doubles, both second most in a single season by a Husky, and 48 runs scored.

Last season, George Springer and Matt Barnes were honored with postseason All-American First and Second Team awards, respectively, from Perfect Game.

UConn opens its 2012 season at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge on February 17 against Indiana.
