The Huskies (4-2) are coming off an impressive doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday to clinch a series win against the Lions.
.Series vs. North Florida... UConn is 3-0 all-time against the Ospreys since first playing in 2004. The last contest came on Feb. 28, 2009 with a 10-2 Husky win. George Springer and Mike Olt both homered in the victory. Springer’s home run was the first of his career and eventually led to a program record46 long balls. Elliot Glynn earned the win for UConn.
Dawgs Hitting Dingers... The Huskies have slugged eight home runs through six games this season. The Huskies didn’t reach eight home runs until April 5th in 2017. Isaac Feldstein leads the team with three homers while Troy Stefanski has belted a pair.
Two-For-One... Junior captain P.J. Poulin recorded two saves during Feb. 24 doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana. Poulin locked down a one-inning save in game one before recorded six outs in game two to seal a marquee series win for the Huskies. Poulin has pitched in three games this season and notched one win, two saves without allowing an earned run. Against Georgia Tech (2/18), Poulin recorded a career-high six strikeouts.
Patience Is A Virtue... Junior captain Zac Susi had a frustrating opening weekend for the Huskies collecting two hits and deserving many more with many at bats ending with a line drive right at a fielder. Against Southeastern Louisiana the patience finally paid off. Those line drives found grass and the Southington, Conn. native logged five RBIs and hit .429 (6-14) over the three-game stretch. His one-out double in the ninth inning of the Huskies comeback victory set the table for Feldstein’s go-ahead two-run homer.
Surging Stefanski... Senior Troy Stefanski is off to his best start in a Husky uniform. The North Stonington, Conn. native leads the team with a .391 AVG and has recorded four multi-hit games. The UConn centerfielder has recorded nine hits, a career-high two home runs and leads the team with a 1.113 OPS.
