YAPHANK, N.Y. - The UConn baseball game scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 at Sacred Heart has been moved to Tuesday, March 11. The game will also move from Bridgeport, Conn. to Baseball Heaven in Yahpank, N.Y. The game can be heard on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn will serve as the home team against Sacred Heart in the contest. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Freshman RHP Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) will make his first collegiate start against the Pioneers. The 5'11 hurler has appeared in five games in 2014, tossing 7.0 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. Zapata last appeared on Sunday in UConn's series finale with Florida, finishing his outing with a line of 1.2 IP, one hit, two walks and one strikeout in relief of senior LHP Brian Ward (Milford, Conn.)
The Huskies dropped three extra-inning games against the Gators this weekend, holding the vaunted Florida offense to just nine runs in the three-game set. Sophomore 2B Vinny Siena (Woodbridge, Conn.) extended his hitting streak to 17 games on Sunday, concluding his weekend with five hits in 14 at-bats.
Connecticut boasts a 14-3 all-time record against Sacred Heart in a series that dates back to 2000. The two teams met last season on April 30 with UConn earning a 10-6 victory. Sophomore C Max McDowell (North Huntingdon, Pa.) collected two hits in two at-bats against the Pioneers, including his third home run on the season to propel the Husky offense.
