The UConn baseball game at Sacred Heart originally set for Tuesday, March 10 has been rescheduled and will now be played on Wednesday, March 11 at Joe Nathan Field in Stony Brook, N.Y. Game time is set for 3 p.m. and the Huskies will serve as the home team. The facility will not be open to spectators due to unsafe seating conditions.

Zapata Shines In 5-0 Win Over Sacred Heart
Freshman Andrew Zapata had a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his first career start and led the UConn baseball team past Sacred Heart, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Baseball Heaven Complex. With the win, UConn snaps a five-game losing skid and moves to 5-8 on the season, while Sacred Heart drops to 3-5.

UConn (6-6) holds a 15-3 all-time record against Sacred Heart (0-8), most recently taking a 5-0 victory at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. last season. Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) made his first career start in the contest and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The Huskies got a 3-for-4 day with an RBI from Eric Yavarone (North Haven, Conn.) while Vinny Siena (Woodbridge, Conn.) drove in four including a three-run home run. Zapata tossed seven one-hit innings and struck out five to pick up the win.

Siena leads the Huskies this season with a .333 average, also tops on the team with 11 RBIs and a .518 slugging percentage. Jack Sundberg (Manfield, Conn.) holds a .326/.429/.413 slash line with eight stolen bases and 10 RBIs, while Blake Davey (Newport Beach, Calif.) has a team-high three home runs. The Husky pitching staff holds a 3.00 ERA on the year and is limiting opposing batters to a .237 batting average against.



UConn plays its first midweek game of the year after winning three consecutive series against Siena and at Kennesaw State and FIU. Zapata is slated to make his first start of the year vs. SHU with two appearances thus far this year out of the bullpen. In 15 outings (eight starts) last season Zapata tossed 63.0 innings and recorded a 2.57 ERA while holding opponents to a .180 batting average against.

Sacred Heart is off to an 0-8 start in 2015, most recently dropping a four-game set at Washington State. Jayson Sullivan leads the Pioneers with five RBIs on the year and Zack Short and Victor Sorrento both have home runs in the early going.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Huskies return to the diamond this weekend for three games in the BB&T College Baseball Series at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. UConn will take on Furman, USC Upstate and Michigan State at Fluor, beginning with Furman on Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
