SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn baseball team heads back on the road this weekend for a three-game set with former Big East foe, Seton Hall. The series originally scheduled at J.O. Christian Field shifted to Owen T. Carroll Field due to weather/unplayable field conditions in Storrs.
UConn (10-8) enters the weekend with a victory under its belt after defeating Central Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon, 7-5. Isaac Feldstein’s two-run single in the ninth was the difference for the Huskies.
All-time the Huskies are 35-46 against the Pirates. Their last meeting came in 2015 in South Orange. The Huskies prevailed, taking two games in a three-game series. Carson Cross notched his fifth victory of the season, pitching 8.2 innings of shutout baseball to win 1-0 on March 25, 2015. Vinny Siena (4-4) and Max McDowell (3-3) aided the Huskies at the plate in the rubber game of the series, winning 6-3.
The Huskies offense has posted 7.8 runs per game in their latest 10-game stretch. Zac Susi has gone 14-39 (.359) with eight runs scored, three doubles and 15 RBIs. Overall, Anthony Prato leads the way with a .362 batting average. The freshman leads the team in runs scored (23), hits (25) and stolen bases (9)
Seton Hall (10-8) is riding a three-game win streak going into the weekend. The Pirates rank No. 44 in the most recent RPI (D1Baseball & Warren Nolan), accumulating wins over Michigan and at No. 2 Florida. Joe Poduslenko leads the Pirates offensively in runs (15), home runs (2), RBIs (13), slugging (.500) and on-base percentage (.462).
