UConn Travels to Fairfield for Midweek Tilt

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Huskies return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon against Fairfield at the Alumni Diamond at 3 p.m.

The Huskies are 59-14-1 against Fairfield all-time in a series that dates back to 1973. Last season the Huskies beat the Stags at J.O. Christian Field, 2-1, behind an outstanding performance from Ronnie Rossomando. The right-hander pitched a career-high seven innings and recorded his first career victory.

Rossomando Twirls Gem in 2-1 Husky Victory
Freshman RHP Ronnie Rossomando (1-2) tossed 7.0 innings of one-run ball on the way to his first career victory as the UConn baseball team topped Fairfield, 2-1, on Tuesday at J.O. Christian Field.

Rossomando makes the start for the Huskies on Wednesday after a solid performance last Friday against Seton Hall in a spot start. After finding out the morning of that he would pitch, Rossomando fired three scoreless frames without allowing a hit against the Pirates.

Fairfield comes into the game with a 7-11 overall record and are 2-1 in the MAAC. The Stags won a series at Rider this weekend to open conference play. Fairfield was picked by the conference to finish first in the league, a year after reaching its first NCAA Tournament after winning the 2016 MAAC Championship. The Stags tied a program record with 32 wins in 2016.

UConn (12-9) enters play Tuesday coming off a series win at Seton Hall. Zac Susi hit a go-ahead two-run double to lift the Huskies to a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon and on Sunday the Huskies notched a 4-0 win in the rubber game to claim the series.
