Tim Cate Honored as Conference Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  Two Huskies received American Conference honors on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Tim Cate secured American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors and freshman Anthony Prato garnered honorable mention status.

Cate (Manchester, Conn.) pitched remarkably well on Friday night, going seven innings, allowing five hits, while tying a career-high with 13 strikeouts. Cate notched his second win of the season as the Huskies opened the weekend with a 3-2 victory against No. 16/25 East Carolina.

Prato (Staten Island, N.Y. continues his extraordinary freshman season with a 6-17 (.353) week at the plate. The shortstop doubled, scored three runs, contributed three RBIs, drew two walks and stole a base this past week. Prato leads the Huskies with a .333 AVG, 27 runs scored and 10 stolen bases this season.

The Huskies racked up a 4-0 record during the week, including a three-game road sweep at ECU. The Huskies opened conference play with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2012 against West Virginia. The top 25 series sweep is the first for the program since the Huskies swept No. 7 Notre Dame in 2002.



UConn (16-9, 3-0) hopes to return to the field on Tuesday, April 4 at 3 p.m. against Northeastern for the home opener at J.O. Christian Field. The Huskies continue a five-game home stand Wednesday, April 5 vs. Hartford and a weekend conference series against Memphis, April 7-9.
