Huskies Host Hawks in Home Opener

STORRS, Conn. – The Huskies open play at J.O. Christian Field on Wednesday, April 5 against the University of Hartford at 3 p.m.  The game can be heard on 91.7 WHUS FM or streamed online at

The Huskies (16-9, 3-0 American) are riding a season-high five game win streak after sweeping No. 16/25 East Carolina in Greenville to kick off conference play. It was the first top 25 series sweep for the Huskies since a home sweep against No. 7 Notre Dame.

Baseball Falls at Hartford, 4-3
Despite home runs from seniors Joe DeRoche-Duffin (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Bryan Daniello (Norwalk, Conn.), the UConn baseball team fell, 4-3, to in-state rival Hartford on Wednesday at Fiondella Field.

Ronnie Rossomando makes the start for UConn after picking up a win on the road against Fairfield last Wednesday. The right-hander pitched a season-high five innings, gave up three hits, one run and season-high five punch-outs.

UConn is 37-15 all-time against Hartford but have not played a home game against the Hawks since 2012, due to weather/field conditions that have forced the series to West Hartford. The Huskies last win in the series came in 2013; Christian Colletti earned the win, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing one run and 4 strikeouts. Bobby Melley collected two hits and drove in two for UConn in a 9-1 victory.

UConn has played its first 25 games on the road, one of 19 teams to have yet to play a home game this season. UConn currently leads the nation with 16 road/neutral site wins this season.

UConn hosts its first conference home series this weekend against Memphis. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
