WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn baseball (20-11) game originally scheduled to be played in Storrs against Hartford (10-16) will now be played at UHart's Fiondella Field in West Hartford due to unplayable field conditions at J.O. Christian Field. First pitch will remain at 3 p.m. with the Huskies playing as the visitors.
Connecticut is 6-1 this season in midweek action, including a perfect 5-0 mark against fellow New England opponents. In their last midweek outing, the Huskies defeated their Husky brethren from Northeastern by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Andrew Zapata (Staten Island, N.Y.) tossed seven one-run innings and Vinny Siena (Woodbridge, Conn.), Jon Testani (Monroe, Conn.) and Willy Yahn (Sharon, Conn.) combined for seven RBIs.
Hartford currently holds a 10-16 record this season, coming off a combined no-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Tuesday. Trey Stover leads the Hawks at the dish with a .350 average while Ben Bengston is batting .333. Ryan Lukach is Hartford's top power bat and has four of the squad's six home runs along with a team-best 22 RBIs. The Hawks hold a 4.87 team ERA and have struck out 154 batters in 222.3 innings. Fourth-year Hartford head coach Justin Blood was a four-year assistant under Jim Penders at UConn and his assistants, Elliot Glynn ('11) and Steve Malinowski ('07), both played for the Huskies.
Following the regional midweek action, the Huskies jump back into league play for a three-game set at Central Florida in Orlando. UConn and UCF will play April 10-12 in an American Athletic Conference set.
